Who are psychologist
Psychologist is a certified person who assesses and learns about people’s behavior and mental health. Only A person with proper university studies and a professional degree in relative subject can work as this professional. Some countries consider gives master’s degree and other gives doctorate degree for this. This definition for this profession is not exclusive, in fact in some authorities there are other professions who can perfume same duties such as counselors and psychiatrists who can treat, and diagnose mental issues. Some are clinical or counseling psychologist who provides mental care and there are socials and organizational ones who do researches and give consultation services.
Clinical ones work with patients with different type of therapies to cure their problems and organizational ones research theories and techniques and apply them in real world problem and issue to find solutions for business, organizational and business purposes.
These professional are in different kind and American Psychological Association has divided them into 56 small parts. They are being described as applied and research-oriented. Their central division is scientist and scholars.
APA needs applied psychologists to train as researchers and practitioners; also they should have advanced degree for that. Psychology is a very huge field and applied professional are just small part of that.
It can be said that clinical psychologists and psychiatrists have same aim that is to lessen the mental suffering but teaching and methodologies are very much different from each other. The most basic difference is that psychiatrists are licensed physicians. They rely on medical models and use psychotropic medications which are the main process to solve the issue. Psychologist gets extensive studies and tests, all these help them to diagnose and plan the treatment of a patient. They get patient who get recommendation from psychiatrists. They spent several years in graduate schools to design researches and advance analysis. They do need MD/PhD but do not consider as doctors. They do not prescribe medicines but in some jurisdictions limited medicines can be prescribed through them. They get training in a number of therapies such as cognitive, existential, humanistic, psychodynamic and behavioral.
In all over the world there are millions of persons who are working in this field and same number of jobs available. America has almost 170200 jobs opened in this field and 152000 people are practicing it professionally in clinical and 2300 are working in organizational. Doctorate degree is an advantage there, person with bachelor’s or master’s degree faces too much competition, there are very few opportunities for those. 19000 registered people were working in United Kingdom at the end of the 2012 in different categories. 9500 of those were work practicing in clinical.
