Some facts about africa

Africa is the world’s second largest continent, it has covered one-fifth of the land area. It is on the equator and is extending on the north and south side in same distance.  It is completely surrounded by sea except from the narrow land which has joined it with Asia. The atmosphere of this continent is hot and warm, almost all countries of it have same situation but on the north and south of equator there are two season wet and dry. Sahara, Namibia and Kalahari deserts are the only parts of it which are driest of the entire continent. The temperature their remains hot all year without any rainfall.

The tip of South Africa and the Mediterranean shores are warm and wet in winter and hot and dry in summer. It has less shoreline than Europe because of it chunky shape and have few natural harbours. Mount Kilimanjaro is the largest mountain which is situated in Tanzania and Sahara desert is the biggest in the world. Area around Lake Chad is an island basin; all rivers empty themselves in it. Tropical rainforest is the heart of continent. Savannah is the house of most of the large wildlife. It has four greatest rivers in the world which are Niger, Zambezi, the Congo and the Nile which is largest in the world.

Most of the population lives in some selected countries. The coast of West Africa, the river Nile and the area around the Lake Victoria have the largest in population. These areas are 2000km away from desert and forest. There are 1000 languages being spoken in Africa and almost every person known more than one language.  People of the south of equator speak a collection of languages known as Bantu. Hausa, Yoruba Akan and Malinke are being spoken in West Africa. East African speaks Kiswahili and in North Africa the majority people talk in Arabic. In 19th century most countries were rule by European nation and in those countries English, French and Portuguese are still being spoken.       

Almost half of the population is Muslim, people of north who speak Arabic, and majority of Mali, Sudan and northern Nigeria are Muslim too.  Traditional Africans have their own ways to follow religion, they prayed with music and dance. People also follow Christianity, Anglican and Catholics there.

In 4000 BC powerful empire started gathering around the areas of river Nile because the land was very productive there. In the times of pharaohs, Egypt was very famous. Trading started in 5th century through empires. They trade in gold, salt and slaves and for that they used camels to cross Sahara desert. Islam was brought there by North African traders and scholars. The Zimbabwe inland had building which was 1000 years old some of them are still present. It was the area of gold.     

Countries stated getting independent in 1956 but some of them didn’t remove the artificial boundaries created by Europeans. That was the reason of great conflict between some areas. Lack of resources, aggression among areas   and growing population is the reason that some countries are still restless in Africa.
